Subra: Hospital Sultanah Aminah fire caused by faulty light

SEGAMAT: The fire that broke out in Hospital Sultanah Aminah’s (HSA) intensive care unit in late October was caused by a capacitor in one of the ceiling lights, said Health Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam.
He said the cause of fire was revealed in the reports submitted by the various authorities and from the commission formed to investigate the blaze.
“The fire was caused by a light capacitor which came into contact with some combustible materials lying underneath,” he said after handing out equipment to low-income earners under the 1Azam programme in Taman Yayasan here Friday.
A blaze broke out at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) on Oct 25, causing multiple deaths and injuries.
The hospital block housing the ICU is currently closed for investigations and ongoing repair work.
