SURAT: Three two-wheelers and two cars were torched in the wee hours of Wednesday near Swaminarayan Temple in Adajan area.
The vehicles were parked outside the residential societies on the main road near Sardar Bridge when they were set on fire. The vehicles belonged to residents of Rupa Raw House, Hari Society and Bhumu Society. The owners usually park their vehicles on the main road outside their societies during the night.
The vehicles were torched around 2.45 am and those living nearby immediately tried to douse the flame. On being alerted, fire brigade also rushed to the spot and controlled the blaze. Among two burnt cars, one car was brand new Hyundai Verna while another was a Wagon R. Both cars were damaged badly in the fire.
Police called forensic officials to investigate the incident and find out exact cause of the incident. “We have yet to find out if someone torched these vehicles or they caught fire accidently. We are questioning the locals to get more details and awaiting forensic report,” said H S Gamit, investigating officer at Rander police station.
