Fire destroys Sandakan supermarket

SANDAKAN: Millions of ringgit went up in smoke as a fire destroyed the Kedai One Superstore here at about 4.30am this Wednesday.
The fire which is believed to have started on the ground floor of the three-story supermarket spread through the three blocks at the Sibuga Jaya Commercial Centre.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Services investigating officer Calvin Joe Jeafery said that they received the distress call at 4.39am and dispatched four fire engines, three utility vehicles with 12 firemen and four officersto the scene.
He said firemen brought the blaze under control at 8.08am before proceeding to put out the remnants of the fire.
Calvin said no casualties were reported and the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department would carry out a probe to determine the cause of the blaze and losses.
This is the fourth fire in the district involving supermarkets and retail stores this year.
Previous cases had involved TKS Trading Sdn Bhd in September and two outlets of the Fung Ming Supermarket chain in October this year.
In an unrelated incident, three people managed to escape unhurt when their rented house at Taman Indah Jaya was destroyed in a fire at 3.23am Wednesday.
