Car and 15 motorbikes set ablaze at flats carpark

KUALA LUMPUR: A car and 15 motorcycles have been destroyed in a fire at a carpark of the Hang Tuah flats here.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zainol Samah said the fire, believed to be an act of arson, occurred at around 3.40am yesterday.
“We received a call that a car and some motorcycles were on fire at 3.39am.
“When we arrived at the scene, we found that a Toyota Vios and 15 motorcycles were on fire at the carpark of Block A of the flats,” he said.
ACP Zainol said Fire and Rescue department personnel put out the flames, and investigations showed that the fire was started intentionally.
“Their forensic unit also found a bottle containing liquid believed to be petrol at the scene.
“We have taken three samples and the bottle for analysis,” he said, adding that police also acquired CCTV footage from the scene.
He said a witness claimed to have seen two men alight from a vehicle and pour liquid on the motorcycles before setting them on fire.
“We will be calling all the vehicle owners involved and the witness to have their statements taken,” said ACP Zainol, urging anyone with information on the case to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
