Father and daughter die in Tawau fire

KOTA KINABALU: A man and his 22-year-old daughter died after a fire razed their house in Tawau early Saturday.
The charred remains of the victims, Buhari Langka, 57 and Nuraisyah Buhari, 22 were found as firemen tried to douse the fire which affected five houses at Kg. Tanjung Batu Keramat in Sabah’s east coast Tawau district.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relation officer Khatizah Rahaban said the fire which started at about 5am was brought under control at about 6.45am.
In a statement, she said that operations were still being carried out.
A total of 36 firemen and five fire engines were despatched to the area following a distress call.
In Sandakan meanwhile, a supermarket and wholesale outlet were destroyed in a blaze that started at about 6am.
No casualties were reported. Firemen are still trying to put out the fire.
