IPOH: The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital men’s ward, which was evacuated following a small fire last week, has reopened.
Perak Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said Ward 5A of the hospital reopened at 3pm Thursday after the completion of repairs and upgrades costing RM40,000.
“Work was carried out since Saturday to replace switches, electric panels for the beds, oxygen supply switches and electrical wiring at the ward.
“Steps are being taken to check the wiring system at the hospital,” Dr Mah said.
On Nov 10, most of the 43 patients at the 44-bed ward were asleep when the fire broke out at about 11.15pm.
Hospital staff and family members of several patients managed to put out the fire within minutes while the patients were wheeled to safety.
It is believed that the fire was due to an electrical short circuit.
