GEORGE TOWN: A 25-year-old man was found burnt to death in the driver’s seat of a Proton Saga FLX after the car rammed into a tree and caught fire along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway on Sunday.
The morning accident occurred in front of the Malaysia Highway Authority Penang office near Batu Uban.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the driver’s identity as Oh Chun Guan.
“It is believed that the driver lost control of the car, which crashed into a tree before bursting into flames with the driver still inside,” he said.
A Fire and Rescue Department official said they received a report on the incident at 7.54am and firemen arrived at the scene within five minutes, but by then the fire had already died down.
ACP Mior said the body has been sent to the Penang Hospital for a postmortem.
The case has been classified as reckless driving under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
