Penan longhouse on fire in interior Sarawak

MIRI: A Penan longhouse in Long Benali in the deep interior of northern Sarawak has been razed by fire.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said they had just received news of the incident.
He said the Department is trying to deploy personnel to the site, which is very remote, via timber tracks.
So far he said it cannot be ascertained how many villagers are affected or when the fire happened.
It is confirmed that there are no fatalities, he said adding that the Department is trying to get more accurate details.
The area is located more than eight hours drive by timber roads from Miri.
