MIRI: A fire swept through a longhouse, leaving some 150 people from 17 families in the Rumah Saba settlement homeless.
The fire, which started at 10am Sunday, spread through the longhouse in Sarikei Division, central Sarawak, within minutes as it was made entirely of wood.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) from Sarikei and Bintangor deployed about 36 firefighters to the scene after receiving a distress call.
Fortunately, all the occupants managed to escape in time before their home was engulfed in flames.
Sarikei division Bomba chief Abdul Mutalib Rashid and his team are probing the cause of the fire.
