Longhouse razed in blaze

MIRI: Fire gutted a longhouse leaving some 150 people from 17 families in the Rumah Saba settlement in Sarikei Division, central Sarawak, homeless.
The blaze, which started at about 10am yesterday, razed the 200m-long premises within minutes.
Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department in Sarikei and Bintangor rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
The longhouse, which was made entirely of wood, went up in flames within minutes, a preliminary report said.
All the occupants managed to escape unhurt.
