Man sets himself on fire after throwing Molotov cocktail into factory

JOHOR BARU: A 29-year-old man set himself on fire after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail into an electronic factory in Taman Johor, Tampoi here.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Taib Ahmad said the suspect was rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for emergency treatment. The man suffered 80% burns on his body.
ACP Mohd Taib said the suspect lit himself on fire after throwing the petrol bomb into the factory at Jalan Arung 1 in Tampoi around 2.05pm on Tuesday.
“A passer-by alerted the authorities and a few firemen rushed to the scene,” he said in a statement.
He added that police found a few petrol bombs kept in a stolen car that was parked nearby.
The case is being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide, which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail or a fine if convicted.
It is also investigated under Section 435 of Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years or fine if convicted.
