Updated: 2017-05-05 20:44
As many as 136 of the 200 people who lost their homes to a fire that razed 50 houses in Klender, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Thursday night remain in a makeshift shelter at the Klender subdistrict office.
The fire was allegedly caused by a short circuit in the electrical system of one of the houses.
The East Jakarta Social Agency has provided meals and sanitation facilities for the displaced people, said Duren Sawit district chief Abu Bakar on Friday.
He said that of the approximately 200 residents whose houses were destroyed in the fire, only 136 were recorded as staying at the camp.
“Not all residents moved to the camp. Some of them were taken in by their neighbors or relatives,” he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
The East Jakarta Red Cross also helped by providing food and medicines, he said.
“Based on our emergency procedures, the camp will stay up for the next three days. However, if [the dislocated] still need it, we will extend its existence,” Abu Bakar said. (dea)
