Updated: 2017-05-07 12:00

ALOR SETAR: One of the victims hurt in a fire at a single- storey bungalow in Taman Derga Jaya here on Thursday has shown tremendous improvement but three others remain in critical condition.

Kedah health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said Nor Eika Nabila Abdul Razak, 17, who was on a life support machine, was now in stable condition.

“The life support machine was removed on Friday and she is now able to respond to verbal instructions,” he said yesterday.

Dr Norhizan said the girl’s mother, spa operator Nor Fadilah Zammir Gul, 43, and two siblings Nor Erra Liyana Abdul Razak, 22, and Muhammad Erel Raffiq, five, were still on life support machines.

He said the three were still warded at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s intensive care unit.

Also warded at the hospital was Nor Fadilah’s husband, car salesman Abdul Razak Jusoh, 49, who was not badly injured in the 6.45am blaze.

The five family members were warded for burns and smoke inhalation.

Nor Fadilah suffered 21% surface burns and severe injuries to her airway, Nor Erra Liyana suffered 32% burns while Muhammad Erel Raffiq suffered excessive smoke inhalation.

Dr Norhizan said the condition of the three had remained the same since they were admitted at 7.20am on Thursday.

“Our specialists will continue their efforts,” he added.
