SEREMBAN: Police are appealing to witnesses to come forward and assist in a probe of a fire which destroyed 13 motorcycles at the main bus station here.
Seremban OCPD ACP Thiew Hock Poh said police have not ruled out arson as the cause of the blaze at the Terminal 1 station.
“We are in the midst of assessing the damage caused by the fire.
“We hope anyone who has any information will come forward,” he said.
Thick smoke billowed from the third level of the multi-storey building at about 1.40pm yesterday.
A Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman said the fire started at the motorcycle parking area of the building.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that more than 13 motorcycles were destroyed,” he said.
Several hundred motorcycles are usually parked there by commuters who use public transport to get to work.
Most of them work in the Klang Valley and pay a fee to park in the building. The upper floors of the building is a car park and the ground floor is the bus terminal.
The authorities have cordoned off the area.
ACP Thiew said the case was being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by fire. Offenders can be jailed up to 14 years or fined upon conviction.
