Cleaners to the rescue as car catches fire in Woodlands carpark
Updated: 2017-05-30 11:56

SINGAPORE – A car caught fire in a multi-storey carpark in Woodlands on Tuesday (May 30) morning, prompting three cleaners to lend a hand in putting out the blaze.

In videos posted on social media by Ms Hanis Husin, one of the cleaners was seen using a hose reel as smoke came out from the vehicle.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire, which involved the car’s engine compartment, at Block 505A, Woodlands Drive 14, at around 8am.

SCDF personnel took over and extinguished the fire with compressed air foam and water from the hose reel used by the cleaners.

A fire engine, two Red Rhinos, an ambulance and a support vehicle were dispatched.

No injuries were reported.

According to Ms Hanis, the female car driver was trying to start the engine and ran out from the vehicle when she saw smoke coming out of the front bonnet.
