MIRI: A double-storey departmental store in Miri’s Chinatown and three shophouses caught fire in a blaze on Sunday afternoon.
Fire-fighters from Miri’s central fire station and the Lopeng fire station are at the scene battling the flames to prevent it from spreading, said Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.
At the moment there are no indications that there is anyone trapped in the fire.
The department store and the other shops are part of a block of shops that were constructed during the British era.
They are located in the heart of the old part of Miri city fronting the old Miri Resident’s Office complex.
