Updated: 2017-06-30 05:00

One of the two Chinese workers severely injured in last Saturday’s Tuas fire died early yesterday morning. The chairman of the Migrant Workers’ Centre, Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, said Mr Chen Qiu, 39, from Jiangsu who suffered 90 per cent burns to his body, died from his injuries.

“We are grateful that Mr Chen’s employer was able to make swift arrangements for his immediate family to be here with him during his final moments,” Mr Yeo added.

Mr Yeo said on Wednesday that both men were in “very critical condition” at the intensive care unit of Singapore General Hospital. The other worker, Mr Jiang Yong Teng, 27, from Shandong, suffered 66 per cent burns. He was moved out of the ICU into a high-dependency ward yesterday and his family is in Singapore.

The Saturday fire, which involved scrap metal and plastic materials, broke out at a warehouse at 28, Tuas Avenue 10.
