Fire razes seaside settlement in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: Dozens of people were made homeless when an evening fire swept through a seaside settlement in the east coast of Tawau district gutting five houses.
Another two houses were partially damaged in the 7pm fire on Monday at the Kampung Titingan settlement though no casualties were reported.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department operations centre chief Khatizah Rahaban said firemen managed to save four other houses from the blaze after reaching the scene at 7.11pm.
She said they had to use water from Sungai Tawau to douse the fire.
Twenty-five firemen and seven fire engines were rushed to the scene.
