ITAHARI: A massive fire at the main marketplace of Itahari Sub Metropolis-6 in Sunsari district has inflicted a loss estimated at around Rs 65 million.
The fire broke out at 12:30 am from a short-circuit in a storehouse of marbles, tiles and stationery materials owned by Yuvraj Karki, who alone suffered a loss of Rs 60 million.
The fire also spread to the Birat Ayurveda’s Patanjali Ayurveda Pharmacy, according to its owner Yogen Khadka.
Human casualties were averted as the security guards of the storehouse usually stay outside, and also due to the fact that they raised a commotion and immediately called out the fire engines, police and the local residents.
The flame that spread vigorously to a house located east of Radha Krishna Petrol Pump was taken under control by fire engines dispatched from Itahari, Dharan, Biratnagar and Inaruwa at 4:00 am.
The actual detail of the losses incurred in the fire is yet to be determined.
A catastrophe was averted as the fire near the petrol pump was tamed with caution, according to police.
