107 houses gutted in fire incidents in 5 districts
Updated: 2013-04-09
At least 107 houses were gutted in fire in Lalmonirhat, Netrakona, Pabna, Rajbari and Dinajpur districts on Sunday.
Seven houses of three Hindu families were gutted in a ‘mysterious’ fire at Namuri village in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The houses might have been set afire by their rivals over a land dispute, said OC Mossabberul Islam of Aditmari PS after visiting the spot Sunday noon.
Locals said, Gobinda Chandra Sheel, 45, and his two brothers Baburam Sheel and Barayan Chandra Sheel had ten houses on their homestead.
Gobinda said, he and others of family were yet to know the reason behind the fire.
“I have land dispute with some people but they live about seven kilometres away from my residence,” he said.
His younger brother Baburam said that the gang might have used petrol, so the fire broke out at all the houses at a time.
“With the help of local people, we could save only three houses,” he said.
