Warehouse, 30 shops gutted
Updated: 2013-01-30
A jute warehouse and at least 30 shops were gutted in two fire incidents in Narayanganj and Chandpur yesterday.
In Narayanganj, huge quantities of raw jute burned down when a devastating fire broke out at the warehouse of Joha and Brothers in the town’s M Circus area.
Locals said two jute trading companies–Paul Company and Sons and International Jute Traders–rented the warehouse to store raw jute. At about 10:00am the fire broke out destroying about 15 thousand mounds of jute.
On information, seven fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire after six hours but it would take about three days to extinguish the flames inside the warehouse, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
Meanwhile, at least 30 shops were gutted in a fire at the municipal market in Hajiganj upazila in Chandpur yesterday. Our Chandpur correspondent reports, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at one of the shops.
