5 killed in separate Manila, Makati fires

Around five people were killed, while more than 100 families were made homeless in separate fires in Manila and Makati Cities Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Makati
A male resident was killed in a fire that hit Barangay Pembo in Makati City before early Sunday.
The fire along Paraiso Street started at 2:34 a.m., reached the first alarm, then was put out an hour after it started, radio dzBB’s Manny Vargas.
The fatality was reported to have Down Syndrome. According to the victim’s sister, he tried to get back to his room and could not make it out.
Investigators are trying to confirm if an electrical short circuit caused the fire.
There was an earlier Makati City fire. This earlier fire broke out at 9:25 p.m.Saturday night, and razed two houses along 18th Avenue in East Rembo.
According to investigators the fire stemmed from a candle left unattended. The fire reached the first alarm before it was put out at 10:05 p.m.
No one was home at either of the houses at the time of the fire.
