Fire Destroys Sawmill In Tawau

TAWAU, Jan 31 (Bernama) — Fire gutted an office and a store at a sawmill in Tanjung Batu, Tengah Logpond near here, in a pre-dawn fire this morning.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Department assistant head Faisal Ahmad said the fire destroyed about 70 percent of the office and about 10 percent of the store.
Faisal said his department received a distress call at 2.06am and two fire engines with 24 fire fighters plus three other vehicles were deployed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control by 2.49am and completely doused the fire by 5am.
In a separate incident, four blocks of wooden worker’s quarters comprising 48 units, was razed by a fire at Jalan Sin On Tiku, yesterday afternoon.
Faisal said his department received a call at 5.09pm and two fire engines, three other vehicles and 19 fire fighters who were deployed to the scene managed to bring the fire under control in 10 minutes.
No casualties were reported in both incidents but the cause of the fire and estimated losses are being investigated, he said.
