Smoking In No-smoking Area Causes Indonesian Man To Suffer 50 Per Cent Burns
Updated: 2017-09-03

BINTANGOR, Sept 3 (Bernama) — An Indonesian worker sustained 50 per cent burns after a carelessly tossed cigarette butt set a flammable liquid storeroom ablaze at a construction site in Jalan Lubok Graji, Ulu Pakan, near here today.
According to the officer-in-charge of the Bintangor fire and rescue station, Nicholas Belulin, the 10 am incident occurred as there was a leaked barrel of thinner in the storeroom.
“An eyewitness said several workers were smoking in the no-smoking area, not knowing that there was a leaked barrel of thinner. When one of them carelessly tossed a cigarette butt on the floor, it caught fire,” he told Bernama when contacted.
The fire also caused severe damage to a lorry and destroyed three units of workers’ houses at the site.
The victim was rushed to the Nanga Wak health clinic for treatmen
