Car catches fire in Bedok carpark, no injuries reported

SINGAPORE – A car caught fire in a Bedok carpark on Saturday (Sept 9) morning, but the fire was put out quickly and there were no injuries reported.
The incident occurred at the carpark near Block 534, Bedok North Street 3 around 10.35am.
Resident Hakim Yusof told The Straits Times that he was in his room watching television when he heard “a small explosion, like a pop sound”.
“I thought it was nothing, then I smelt smoke,” said the 26-year-old civil servant. “When I looked out of the window, I saw a car caught fire.”
A video he shared with ST shows a vehicle blazing in between two other vehicles.
Mr Hakim said the fire was put out in less than 10 minutes. He added that he did not see anyone who was injured.
SCDF said it was alerted at 10.35am and dispatched a fire engine, a Red Rhino and two fire bikes.
It put out the fire using a water jet and a compressed air foam backpack.
“No injuries were reported,” said SCDF.
The spokesman gave the following pointers to prevent vehicles from catching fire:
– Service your vehicle regularly at authorised vehicle workshops.
– During each servicing session, ensure that the vehicle’s electrical, engine and fuel systems are checked for any defect.
– Outside of scheduled servicing period, owners are encouraged to conduct visual checks for any sign of oil leakage.
