Two people died and seven others were injured in a fire that gutted a rubber glove factory belonging to PT Indoglove in Percut subdistrict, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on Thursday night
The police have yet to identify the dead victims, while the seven badly injured victims – Astuti, Megawati, M Yusuf, Marisi Rahmaniya, Reni Anggraini and Sunarti – have been taken to nearby hospitals in Medan.
Dozens of fire appliances have been deployed to extinguish the fire, which is still blazing at the time of writing.
A witness, Roni Sitinjak, said on Friday that the fire was triggered by a spark from a loose electrical cable that had fallen on a glove cleansing installation while dozens of workers were still on the premises at around 8 p.m, kompas.com reported.
Belawan Resort Police spokesman Benny said that officers were still combing the area to ascertain whether there were any other victims. (cor)
