State Secretariat catches fire

The office of the State Secretariat caught fire on Thursday afternoon, causing panic among employees and sparking rumors that the adjoining State Palace was also ablaze. No fatalities were reported.
Witnesses said the fire started on the building’s third floor, which houses various assistants to State secretary Sudi Silalahi.
Faulty wiring was thought to be the cause of the fire. Several engine companies were dispatched by the Jakarta Fire Department in response.
Shortly after the fire started, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono arrived at the scene to inspect the damage, accompanied by National Police Criminal Investigations Division commander Comr. Gen. Sutarman.
