The explosion of a gas line in Subang, West Java, belonging to state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, caused a serious fire on Thursday.
“The Pertamina-owned gas-line explosion caused around 50 meter-high flames and sent smoke 100 meters into the sky in Subang,” said West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul, as quoted by kompas.com in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said the explosion, which resulted in a large fire, caused damage to homes, trees and livestock. “There are [also] victims who have died in the fire,” said Martinus, stating that three people died while seven others were severely injured during the incident.
The explosion of the pipeline, installed along Java’s northern coastal highway and located in Kampung Batang, Madalawangi village, Sukasari district, Subang, occurred on 5:48 a.m. local time on Thursday.
The fire has been extinguished. However, the cause of the gas-line explosion remains unknown. “We are still investigating the cause of the incident,” said Martinus. (put/ebf)
