It is understood the taxi caught fire before the Cairnhill Road exit.
Police have closed off the tunnel while fire fighters put out the fire and the charred vehicle is being removed.
A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman said the fire has been put out and no injuries have been reported. In a SCDF statement issued, the driver managed to escape the fire.
