The fire which broke out at an incineration plant in Tuas has been brought under control, though firefighting efforts are still ongoing, said a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman.
Two workers of a waste management company suffered serious burns from the fire which started at about 5pm on Friday. It quickly spread to an area about the size of two football fields.
The plant at 7 Tuas Avenue 10 is owned by Veolia Environmental Services. The firm deals with both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
Flammable chemicals in the plant fuelled the raging fire, which was well underway when Singapore Civil Defence Force firefighters arrived on the scene after being alerted at 5.17pm.
