80 families lose homes in Tondo fire
Updated: 2013-05-22-08:48
At least 80 families lost their homes in a fire that hit a residential area in Manila’s Tondo district shortly before midnight Tuesday.
No one was initially reported injured in the fire at Almario Street in Dagupan area, radio dzBB reported Wednesday.
The fire started at about 11:35 p.m. Tuesday and reached the fourth alarm before it was placed under control at 12:29 a.m. and was put out at 1:33 a.m.
Some 40 houses were destroyed in the fire, even as arson investigators estimated the damage to property at P1 million.
The investigators are verifying information the fire started from a short circuit due to a jumper, or an illegal electrical connection.
Meanwhile, police personnel affected by a fire that hit a residential area near Philippine National Police headquarters in Quezon City earlier this week may not get automatic assistance from the PNP, dzBB’s Tuesday Niu reported.
The report said this means that at least for now, the police personnel may have to rely on colleagues passing the hat to extend assistance to them. — LBG, GMA News
