Fire reduces two dozen houses to ashes

RAJBIRAJ: Property worth about Rs 5 million was gutted in fire that claimed over two dozen houses in Rampura Malhaniyan, Saptari, yesterday night.
According to police, food, clothes, utensils were burnt to ashes and over half dozen cattle were claimed by the blaze that broke out at the house of Ibrahim Miyan and spread to other houses in the neighbourhood. Nepali Army and Nepal Police personnel with the help of a fire brigade from Rajbiraj had doused the fire today morning. Meanwhile, four houses were gutted in another fire mishap yesterday night at Phaparbari, Makawanpur, causing a loss of Rs 1.6 million.
An inferno was reported in the Das Gaja of Jogbani, near Biratnagar when a fair was going on in the area. The fire that had started at around 10:00 pm had destroyed about two dozen shops before the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel could contain the blaze.
According to Morang DSP, Dipak Pokharel, five fire brigades from Biratnagar and Itahari were called to extinguish the fire.
