More than 100 houses gutted in Saptari

RAJBIRAJ:At least 114 houses and sheds were gutted in different areas of Saptari in the last 24 hours.
According to police, 80 houses and huts belonging to three dozen families were gutted at Mandalbasti in Bishahariya yesterday evening and 34 shanties belonging to 20 families at Sutiharbasti, in Tilathi VDC were gutted today morning.
Police estimated property worth Rs 11.5 million(118,026$:1NPR=0.01026USD,14/08/04 rate) was destroyed in the fire in Mandalbasti. The fire had started from Laxman Mandal’s kitchen. “We lost everything to the fire except what we had put on,” bemoaned Nanda Kumar Yadav, fretting about his family.
“What shall I feed my family and where shall I take them for shelter as I myself am in this condition?” wondered another fire victim Manjudevi Mandal, who was carrying a child she had delivered a fortnight ago.
Saptari Constituency No 3 CA member Umesh Kumar Yadav today distributed some beaten rice to fire victims today morning.
In Sutarbasti, the fire that started from Bauku Sutihar’s kitchen spread through the village, damaging property worth Rs 6 million(61,579$:1NPR=0.01026USD,14/08/04 rate). Two persons injured in the fire are now undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Doctors have reported their condition as normal. The fire that started at about 9:00 am was brought under control after two hours by locals with the support of the fire brigade, and security personnel.
Chief District Officer Ramadhin Yadav distributed food items and tents. The CDO’s team also distributed relief materials to victims at Mandalbasti. He pledged more support to the victims of both places after assessing details of the damage.
