At least one person was reported dead in a fire that hit a furniture factory in Manila’s Sta. Cruz district before dawn Saturday.
The victim, initially identified as Nicasio Pason, 41, was trapped inside the burning factory, according to a report by radio dzBB’s Mao dela Cruz.
Chief Inspector Bonifacio Carta of the Manila Fire Department cited initial findings indicating Pason ran back into the factory to save some items but did not get back out.
Carta was quoted in the report as saying the fire caused some P1 million in damage to property.
Initial investigation showed the fire started at the factory’s second floor before 2 a.m. and reached the fourth alarm before it was put out past 3:30 a.m.
Arson investigators are still verifying the cause of the fire. — LBG, GMA News
