Fire hits UP Diliman anew
Updated: 2015-07-02-12:00
Another fire broke out at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus in Quezon City Tuesday night, leaving a fire volunteer injured.
Zoren Cabagan, 32, was injured in his left foot when he stepped on a nail while he was putting out the blaze, fire marshal Jesus Fernandez said.
Fernandez said the fire, which reached the second alarm, was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
Arson investigators said the fire broke out at the bowling alley at the Alumni Center at 11:30 p.m. and spread to a café in the building.
“The athletes housed at the Alumni Center had to be evacuated to the Kalayaan Residence Hall,” UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan said. Damage to property was placed at P200,000(4,430$:1PHP=0.022153USD, 2015/07/07 rate).
The administration of UP Diliman is considering having its own fire station.
Earlier, a fire broke out at the College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Foundation food center, leaving two employees injured.
Fire drills would be conducted at the university when classes start in August, Tan said.
