Two vehicle spare parts shops razed in fire

BUTTERWORTH: Two car spare parts shops along Jalan Heng Choon Thean in Bagan Luar here were razed in a fire on Monday (Oct 16) night.
Fire broke out at the premises, which had been converted into two shoplots from four connecting units, at about 9.30pm.
A spokesman from the state Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 9.31pm and arrived at the scene three minutes later.
“The shops were hardware shops selling vehicle spare parts and we had to ensure that the fire did not spread to the nearby units,” he added.
Although there were no reported casualties, the double-storey shop houses were 80% damaged in the fire, he added.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
