Money up in smoke as bank’s ATM machines burnt

MIRI: The 24 hour fast-banking centre of a bank in Miri city centre was found burnt early this morning.
The fire at about 2.30am on Saturday (Oct 21) caused three ATM machines, three cash deposit machines and a cheque deposit machine to be destroyed.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said Bomba Miri station received an alert on the fire in the early morning hours.
A team of fire fighters rushed to the site near the Miri waterfront area but found the fire already at full-scale.
Supt Law said both Bomba and police are investigating the cause of the fire, and he called on the public not to speculate on the issue.
The amount of cash lost in the fire has yet to be determined.
