ITANAGAR: A devastating fire has rendered at least 63 families homeless at Naharlagun’s C-Sector near the DC’s office complex. No casualty or injuries in the blaze, which took place on Sunday, have been reported yet. Though sources in police confirmed that a short circuit led to the fire, police said the actual cause can only be known after investigation is over.
After noticing flames and smoke billowing out of the OB-type buildings, the occupants, mostly tenants, ran out for safety, leaving behind their belongings. Many important documents and valuables were reduced to ashes, said a police source. The firefighters had to toil hard to bring the fire under control. Police and locals worked together to douse the flames. The extent of loss is yet to be assessed. The administration has made make-shift arrangements for the victims at the Naharlagun Community Hall. Moreover, as an immediate relief, each of the families was provided Rs 2,500 by the district administration and Rs 2,000 by local MLA Techi Kaso.
