Shoplots razed in Lawas and Bintangor fires

MIRI: It was a fiery start to the “Year of the Dog” for folks in Lawas and Bintangor in Sarawak.
A triple-storey shoplot went up in flames in Lawas town in northern Sarawak at about 10pm on Saturday (Feb 17).
In Bintangor town in the central province, a block of four units of triple-storey shops was destroyed in a blaze at about 3am Sunday (Feb 18).
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said members of the public alerted the Bomba stations in the two areas.
Though firemen could not save the burning shoplots, they managed to ensure the blaze did not spread to the adjacent blocks.
The cause of the fires is still being probed but there were no casualties or injuries.
