KATHMANDU: Three separate incidents of industrial and residential fires were reported in the Kathmandu Valley in the past two days, police said.

Property worth around Rs 2 million was reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in Kandaghari-based Baruwa Wood Pvt Ltd of David Basnet, Rajesh Karki and Bal Kumar Katwal today, DSP Chakra Bahadur Singh, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, said. Police and locals backed by fire engines had fought the inferno before it could spread to residential areas.

Meanwhile, furniture and machines worth around Rs 7,30,000 were gutted when a fire engulfed a furniture store of Dasharath Kushwah in Dhapasi yesterday night.

DSP Singh said the fire broke out after a transformer burst near the furniture store. Juddha Barun Yantra had deployed a fire engine to douse the flames.

In a separate incident, valuables worth over Rs 1.8 million were gutted after a fire broke out from the kitchen of Hari Krishna Maharjan in Machchhegaun at around 10:45 yesterday. Maharjan told police that nine tolas of gold, 14 tolas of silver and other valuables were destroyed in the fire. No one was injured in the fires.
