Phichit ice factory narrowly escapes fire
Updated: 2019–04–22
An ice factory in Muang district of Phichit narrowly escaped a raging fire that spread from a rice field and engulfed hundreds of car tyres within the factory compound early yesterday, police said.
The fire spread from burning stubble in an adjacent rice field into the Tharathip ice factory in tambon Khlong Khu where hundreds of used tyres were piled up.
The tyres went up in flames, sending billowing black smoke over the factory and causing panic among people in Phichit municipality.
Water trucks and fire engines from the province’s peace-keeping force on standby at city hall, together with troops and firefighters, rushed to the ice factory.
They were able to control the blaze shortly afterwards and save the main building.
There were no casualties. The burning tyres caused severe air pollution, but no other property was damaged.
