Updated: 2019–05–04
Fire broke out before dawn on Saturday and spread through 45 houses and commercial establishments on Riverside Street, Barangay Commonwealth in Quezon City, according to a report by Vonne Aquino on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali.
Initial investigation showed the fire, which started past 4 a.m., may have started at the house of Jefferson Fernandez.
The Bureau of Fire Protection is investigating if an electrical problem caused the fire.
Chief Inspector Joseph del Mundo, chief of operation of the Quezon City Fire District, said no one was home at the Fernandez house at the time of the fire but there were appliances left plugged into electrical sockets.
The fire, which reached the third alarm, quickly spread since the houses were made of light materials.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire at 5:20 a.m. No one was reported killed in the fire.
Some of the residents were not able to save any belongings.
Seventy families were affected by the fire.
The BFP estimated structural damage to reach P50,000. —KG, GMA News
