Two minor siblings killed in Tondo fire
Updated: 2019–04–30
Two minors siblings died after a fire hit a residential area in Tondo, Manila early Tuesday.
According to a report by Cecille Villarosa on GMA’s 24 Oras, the victims were identified as 15-year-old Francine Jagunos and 12-year-old Lance Jagunos.
The siblings’ bodies were found lifeless and hugging each other on the second floor of their house during the mopping out operation.
The victims may not have been able to exit immediately because their main door also caught fire, according to firefighters.
“Hindi na siguro sila nakababa kasi na-suffocate na sila nang usok. ‘Yun naman ang magiging kwan natin eh. Hindi tayo mamatay sa apoy kaagad, mamamatay muna tayo sa suffocation sa usok. Siguro wala nang option ‘yung dalawang magkapatid, siguro nagyakapan na lang sila,” said Fire Inspector Jose Troy Juaneza, substation commander of the Tondo Fire Station.
According to authorities, the fire broke out at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. The teenagers’ parents went to the market before the incident and were shattered by the devastating news when they got back.
Meanwhile, three firefighters were slightly injured.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire which left 12 families homeless.
The estimated cost of damage was pegged at P100,000. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
