Updated: 2019–05–07
HISAR: A farmer died while trying to extinguish a wheat stubble fire on a farm situated between Kumbha and Gagankhedi villages. The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Mehar Singh, a resident of Gagankheri village of Hisar district.
On the basis of primary investigation, the police said Mehar had two and a half acres, on which wheat had been harvested. On Sunday, when he went to the farm with his wife and two sons, his neighbouring farmer’s farm was on fire.
He tried to extinguish the fire, and for this, he entered the water drain and got trapped in smoke and subsequent fire. Meanwhile, some other farmers also came for rescue and called the fire brigade. After the fire was doused Mehar was found lying in the field scorched.
He was later taken to a local hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him brought dead. Mehar has two sons, one of whom is 10-year-old while the other is eight-year-old.
Sub-inspector Bijender Singh, investigation officer in the case, said the cause of the fire was not known yet.
“It is being suspected that might have got ignited by a bidi or cigarette or someone might have started it deliberately. At present, the matter is under investigation and any action will be taken as per law,” he added.
