GURUGRAM: A group of people set a pan kiosk on fire over an argument regarding payment of cigarettes at Baskushla Chowk in Manesar sector 7 on Saturday.
The kiosk owner suffered burn injuries, and is currently under treatment at Rockland Hospital.
The accused are absconding. According to police, Abdul Sakir, a who is from Bihar’s Madhubani and currently staying in Baskushla village, runs a pan kiosk. On Saturday, he was at his shop when few people came to buy cigarettes, and they had an argument over payment.
After few minutes, the accused returned with a bottle of petrol and one of them poured petrol while another threw a half burnt cigarette inside the kiosk and fled.
The kiosk was engulfed in fire while Abdul was stuck inside. People present near the kiosk tried to douse the fire and rescued the victim. He was taken to Rockland Hospital following which the police were informed. Later, Abdul was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The police have not been able to trace the accused yet and they are recording the statements of people present at the time of the incident. “There were a large number of people near the kiosk at the time of the incident and it is not clear who committed this crime. No one was able to note down the auto’s registration number,” said a police officer from Manesar police station, adding that at present they have registered a case against unknown persons under Section 326 (acid throwing) of the IPC.
A police officer told TOI that the victim is not in a condition to record his statement. Depending upon the medical condition of the victim, the sections of the FIR would be changed.
