CHENNAI: A fire broke out at a supermarket next to a fuel station on GST Road near the airport on Sunday morning creating panic among customers and employees.
The fire at the supermarket that functions inside a Bharat Petroleum fuel station at Palavanthangal spread across the ground floor.
The staff who were on duty alerted the fire control room and tried to put out the fire with the help of extinguishers.
The fire and rescue service personnel from Guindy, Tambaram and Teynampet rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after struggling for over an hour.
A major accident at the fuel station was averted as the fire could be extinguished quickly. The St Thomas Mount police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the fire.
