House, godown destroyed in two fire incidents in a day

Updated: 20190530

INDORE: A vacant house reduced to ashes after a fire ripped through it at Nalia Bakhal in Malharganj area late on Tuesday.

The house belonged to a trust Rathor Samaj. It was left abandoned for past many years. At 1:40am residents of the area noticed the blaze and informed fire officials. Three fire tenders were pressed into service. After more than four hours of toil fire fighters were able to control the blaze.

A fire official said that the house was built on wooden structure triggering the fire to spread fast. No one was hurt in the incident. Investigation was on to ascertain the cause of the fire.

In another incident, a fire broke out at a flat in a commercial complex in Aada Bazaar area on Wednesday morning.

Locals saw thick smoke billowing out of the godown, which was located on fourth floor of the building. They raised the alarm and also informed fire officials.

Two fire tenders rushed to the spot within 15 minutes after the fire was reported. Fire fighters found it difficult to reach the spot because of narrow lanes in area. So, they entered an adjacent residential building by vacating it, to launch the rescue operation. The blaze was doused in an hour.

Thick smoke had engulfed the entire floor of the building. Though no one was inside the room, its owner – a cloth trader- was using it as godown to stock clothes. He claimed that stock of clothes worth Rs10 lakh was destroyed in the fire.

I learnt about the incident by neighbours. Everything was already gutted before I reached the spot,” said the godown owner Simran Jeet.
