Fire breaks out at Kaki Bukit industrial unit

SINGAPORE – A fire broke out at an industrial unit in Kaki Bukit on Monday (May 27).
In a Facebook post at 4.12pm, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at 175 Kaki Bukit Avenue 1 at 3.10pm.
The fire was raging at the second floor of an industrial unit when SCDF officers arrived at the scene.
Three handheld jets were used to keep the fire under control.
In an update at 7.16pm, SCDF said that initial attempts to enter the burning unit was challenging due to the heavy smoke and falling debris from storage racks.
Firefighters had to use foam to bring the fire, which involved rubber and insulation materials, under control.
A total of 11 emergency vehicles and 35 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
The fire was eventually extinguished after two and a half hours with the use of four foam jets.
In the update, SCDF said that damping down operations, which prevent potential rekindling of fire from hot burnt surfaces, were underway.
More than 100 workers from neighbouring units were evacuated by SCDF and police officers. There were no reported injuries.
SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire.
