Two fires gut seven Kolkata shops
Updated: 2019–06–03
KOLKATA: Two fires broke out in the city on Sunday. In the first incident, a fire broke out around 5.45pm at a fast food centre on Tobin Road, close to Indian Statistical Institute. Soon, the fire spread to five adjoining shops in the area and gutted them. A ready-made garments shop and a tea shop, which were next to the fast food store, were completely charred. Four fire engines reached the spot and controlled the flames. Ramkrsihna Mondal, the garments shop owner, said the fire had probably started from a gas cylinder.
“We had tried to control the fire and informed the fire officials and Baranagar police station immediately. But it was of no help. We are looking for government aid now.”
In the second fire, a shop was gutted in the Ramlal Bazar area of Garfa in south Kolkata on Sunday night. Two fire tenders brought the flames under control. Officials said a gas cylinder leakage had probably triggered the fire.
