CHARIKOT: Property worth Rs 20 million was gutted when a massive fire engulfed one dozen hotels, grocery shops, huts, and a house at Charikot Bus Park in Dolakha headquarters, yesterday night.
According to District Police Office, Ramji Chaulagain and Lokraj Chaulagain’s three-storey house, three huts belonging to Kedar Bhandari and another hut belonging to Gomadevi Ghimire, Lokraj Rimal’s hotel and grocery store, Subarna Khatri’s hotel, grocery stores belonging to Sunita Neupane, Balkrishna Phyal, and Bishnu Basnet, and a tyre maintenance centre belonging to Hikmat Khatri were destroyed in the blaze.
Nepal Police and Nepali Army personnel brought the fire under control around 1:45 am today.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
DSP Om Adhikary at Dolakha District Police Office said lack of fire fighters at the municipality and explosion of seven gas cylinders had made it difficult to control the fire.
“Water tanks and pitchers were used due to lack of a fire engine,” a local said.
The government has made it mandatory to keep one fire engine at every municipality, but Bhimeswor Municipality in Dolakha does not have a fire engine.Dolakha chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry today collected relief materials for victims.
